it is like placing your subjects and framing them in a way that allows for a focal point in your image. It is putting on blinders to enable yourself to focus on a single idea or thing. Focus is a difficult task at hand due to the abundance of information overloaded. This generation in which I am accustomed has a variety of outside stimulants that cause distractions at the touch of a fingertip. As I sit here typing away as my words flow out from my jumbled memory bank; and I am reminded how hard I must push through the void in order to continue on even one more word or sentence.

is putting all your attention into a single ordeal in order to accomplish a task. It isn’t so easy when you are constantly being pulled in every direction. My brain wanders and the distractions begin to build like blocks; thus creating a wall that I must break down to continue on. The sound of cars traveling down the highway, the bright colors of my iPhone screen, and the nagging memories that begin to clutter my once focused mind. It’s like beginning a project and then leaving it behind; over and over again.

it is why they make groups for this type of thing. It is why so many children are being diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder. We were not created to focus on one single thing; but instead we were taught that we could do it all. “Learn to multitask,” they said, as if we would ever be capable of putting in our all.

that is the resolution I wish to concur in the new year. I crave the ability to sit unbothered even by my own brain waves, and not by some medical professionals magic, but by pure dedication and desire. B. Waslien, Jan. 2018
